GEM/Flow Meters

GEM/Flow Meters

How do I select the right Mag Meter for my application?

Our GT authorized distributors are trained and highly knowledgeable about our meters. Contact a distributor for personalized, expert guidance to find the perfect GEM flow meter for your specific needs. For help finding a distributor go to our Contact Us page.

What output options are available for the GEM?

All GEM flow meters come fully equipped with 4-20mA (analog), pulse/frequency output (digital), and Modbus (serial via RS-485) capabilities. Simply use our power/output cable to access all three. For applications without access to an external power supply, the GEM2 also offers a low-power pulse/frequency output with adjustable width, compatible with any digital telemetry device.

Can I use solar energy to power my GEM?

Absolutely! The GEM can be powered with 8-32 Vdc. Ensure your solar rig stays within this range for optimal performance. We recommend installing a low voltage disconnect (LVD) to maintain smooth performance.

What is the power consumption of a GEM?

The GEM is an ideal choice for remote applications. At 12 Vdc, the rated amp draw is 80 mA, with a maximum of 90 mA. Recommended power supply rated at 300 mA or higher.

How do I wire my GEM for my specific application?

Wiring your GEM is straightforward. Using our power/output cable, you’ll have access to three communication styles (analog, digital, and serial) through a four-wire setup (2 power + 2 signal wires). For low-power digital signals, the GEM2 only needs 2 signal wires. Enjoy easy integration with your existing systems!

What are the limit flow rate values for my GEM when setting 4-20mA?

At 4mA, the flow rate value is 0 gpm for all sizes. At 20mA, the flow rate corresponds to each size’s meter span, detailed on page 11 of our installation and operations manual which is available on our product page and resources page. Refer to page 17 of the IOM manual for a detailed wiring diagram.

Do I need to ground my GEM and how should this be done?

Proper grounding is crucial to ensure the GEM/GEM2 delivers accurate, reliable performance, especially with flexible piping like PVC. Check page 14 of our manual for grounding specifics. Note: large grounding rings are not needed with the GEM.

Who should I contact for help with troubleshooting my equipment?

If you cannot find the answers in our manual, contact your local distributor for further assistance. They are ready to provide dedicated support to ensure your GEM2 operates smoothly.

If my meter is battery powered only, how long should I expect the battery to last?

Battery life depends on the application and meter usage. Under favorable conditions, your original battery pack could last up to five to six years.

How often should I recalibrate my GEM?

Our Mag Meters do not have mechanical parts that wear out, ensuring long-term accuracy. All GEM flow meters are factory calibrated and their calibration is traceable to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) per ISO/IEC 17025: 2017.

Once calibrated, our electromagnetic flow meters maintain their stated accuracy over time without any annual recalibrations. If you have a requirement for periodic calibrations, please contact your distributor

Is there a way to record my data without external telemetry devices?

Yes! The GEM2 offers an optional data logger, storing up to five years of data at 10-minute intervals, all without significantly impacting battery life. Access and export data easily using our GEM app on your phone or tablet.

Can I use a GEM for a high-temperature corrosive fluid?

Absolutely! GEM flow meters come with various liners (Teflon® PTFE, FEP, PFA) and electrodes (Hastelloy C, Titanium, Tantalum, Tungsten Carbide) to handle even the most caustic applications. Contact your distributor to find the perfect configuration for your needs.

Can I use a GEM for potable water applications?

Yes! All GEM meters 4” and above are certified by NSF/ANSI/CAN 61 and 372. For applications requiring smaller meters, please contact us to explore your options.

Pumps

Pumps

Do you offer pumps in other sizes than what you have posted in your brochures?

The brochures cover the majority of applications we’ve encountered so far. However, we do have some additional size offerings in many of the families and are regularly developing new sizes or custom projects. If you have a specific size or model you need but aren’t seeing, contact us and ask abut it.

What are the key differences between the 2400, 2500, and 2D00 series pumps?

All three share the same operating premise, with the primary difference being the performance window each series operates in. The 2D series is approximately 2/3 the generated head as the 2500 series which is 1/2 the head generation of the 2400 series for the same foot print.

How do solid handling pumps differ from standard pumps?

Solid handling pumps have larger flow paths in the pump bowl and through the impellers which allow solid particles to pass through without clogging. They are also built with robust materials to withstand the abrasive nature of solids.

Valves

Valves

What industries commonly use GloTech’s V2100 Check Valves?

The V2100 Check Valves are versatile and can be used in numerous industries, including water treatment, chemical processing, oil and gas, and Irrigation systems. Their minimal flow friction and quick shut times make them ideal for high-flow applications.

What are the advantages of using check valves in a system?

Check valves are designed to allow fluid flow in one direction only, preventing backflow and protecting pumps, compressors, and other equipment. They are crucial for maintaining system integrity and preventing damage caused by reverse flow.

How do ball valves differ from gate valves?

Ball valves use a spherical disc to control the flow of fluids, allowing for quick and precise shut-off. They are known for their reliability and ability to provide a tight seal, even after extended periods of disuse. Gate valves, on the other hand, operate by lifting a gate to allow flow and lowering it to stop flow, providing excellent flow regulation and minimal pressure loss.

What is the primary function of gate valves?

Gate valves are used to control the flow of liquids and gases by either fully opening or fully closing the flow path. They provide a tight seal and are ideal for applications requiring minimal pressure drop and uninterrupted flow.

What are Butterfly Valves used for?

Butterfly Valves are used for regulating flow. They are well-suited for applications requiring large valve sizes and are used in water distribution, wastewater treatment, and process industries.

What are Check Valves used for?

Check Valves prevent backflow in a piping system, ensuring that fluid flows in only one direction. They are essential in applications where backflow could cause damage or contamination.

What are Gate Valves used for?

Gate Valves are typically used to allow or stop the flow of fluid. They are not designed for flow regulation but are excellent for applications where a straight-line flow with minimal restriction is needed.

What types of valves does GloTech offer?

GloTech offers a comprehensive range of valves, including Ball Valves, Gate Valves, Check Valves, and Butterfly Valves, each designed for specific applications and fluid control needs.

What are Ball Valves used for?

Ball Valves are ideal for on/off control without pressure drop. They are commonly used in applications requiring quick shutoff and are suitable for both liquids and gases.

Water Treatment

Water Treatment

Can these products be customized to fit my specific needs?

Yes, at GloTech, we understand that every wastewater treatment facility has unique requirements. Our team of experts is ready to work with you to tailor solutions for your specific needs.

What materials are used in the construction of your aeration products?

Our Aerator Propellers and Aerator Discharge Cones are constructed using high-grade, corrosion-resistant materials to ensure durability and long-lasting performance, even in harsh wastewater treatment environments.

What are Aerator Discharge Cones used for?

Aerator Discharge Cones are used to distribute the aerated water evenly throughout the treatment system. They help reduce dead zones, ensuring that the oxygen-rich water reaches all parts of the system, thereby improving overall treatment efficiency.

What are Aerator Propellers and how do they work?

Aerator Propellers are devices designed to enhance the oxygenation and mixing processes in wastewater treatment systems. They work by creating a high-speed rotational movement that facilitates the transfer of oxygen into the water, promoting the biological processes necessary for effective treatment.

Does GloTech design custom Waste Water Systems?

We supply the components to make your system work. We’ll offer both off the shelf and custom designed pumps, tanks, blades, aerators, fixtures and fittings for your system.
